To become a radiology technician, the following radiology technician requirements are necessary. The candidates must have completed training with a 2 year degree accredited by the Joint Review Committee on radiologic technology. To apply for this program, one must have completed high school or diploma with good grades. The course enlightens students on the basics of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, radiation physics, radiation protection and principles of imaging. Hands on training are given to the students which will enable them to be confident of using the equipments. Duration of the course is reduced for people who are already working in this field. For example, nurses can undergo one year certification in radiology to qualify as a radiologist and radiologist willing to move to a supervisory position should posses a bachelor’s or associate degree to qualify for the position.

It is very important that a technician is licensed before he starts his career. A radiologist is licensed to make sure that he is properly trained to do the imaging and protect people from unnecessary radiation exposure. Licensing requirements varies from one country to other however most of them are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT). In order to become certified by the AART the technicians must graduate from a college that offers the accredited radiology program and clear the exams conducted by the organization.

Other radiation technology requirements include patience and good communication skills. The technician must also take necessary steps to protect their patients from the radiation. The radiologist must wear lead aprons to avoid direct radiation to pass through the skin. They also provide the patients with these lead aprons and other sheets to prevent exposure to radiation. Sometimes the patients may be emotional; it is the duty of the radiologist to convince them for the imagery.
