Even if the doctor knows how to read scans of a patient, he is not specialized in handling the actual equipment. This means that all hospitals will have radiological technologist jobs in order for the doctors to be able to use the imaging equipment available.
If you want to be hired on one of the radiological technologist jobs available at one of your local hospitals, you need to follow a school for it. It is not a university, it is more like a three or four year course in learning how to handle imaging equipment for medical purposes. This is a vital job because it has to do with actual human beings that rely on your skills to operate the above mention hardware.
Basically, you will learn everything you need to know about how to operate imaging technology and how to provide with the best scans for the doctors. You would imagine that you need a separate training course for each technology, but you would be wrong. The school I was talking about earlier teaches you everything you need to know about all imaging technologies currently in use.
After you finish this school and get your diploma, you will be able to apply for all existing radiological technologist jobs, but also for a couple of other related jobs, in case you don’t get hired in any of the first jobs. You can be hired as an archeological radiological technologist and perform CAT scans on mummies and other similar things. The money is good for either jobs, so you can choose in what job you want to be hired.
Radiological technologist jobs are few and far apart, so I advise that you apply for any jobs that you find, regardless of the area of interest. After you have steady job you can keep looking for a better position or maybe a private hospital will hire at some point. Private hospitals usually pay a lot more than state hospitals, so that will be your aim as a position, probably. Take it slowly and don’t expect too much from the first couple of years because many employers are going to be looking for experienced technologists. Take your time to learn the tools of the trade before you expect a large wage from your employer. As I said, try getting hired in any of the radiological technologist jobs that you can find and go from there with your searches.
